Have you ever met anyone crazy enough to buy a big sailboat while not knowing how to sail, and in fact having never even sailed before? Well, now you have. I joke that this is my midlife crisis, but honestly if it is, I totally recommend having one.

Here is the short version of the story. A few years ago my oldest son went sailing with his boss. He told me about it and it sounded cool but I was not interested. In fact I told him that I would NEVER sail, as it was the scariest thing ever. He went sailing again and after this trip told me about leaving the dock with the motor on, getting out into open water, raising the sails, and turning the engine off. He is a man of few words but the ones he used that day made it seem magical. Within a few months of that conversation, after binge watching other newbies do what I was thinking about, we bought a 35' sailboat. Initially we talked about sailing full-time for a few years, and I would still love to do that, but for now we will start with smaller trips then go from there.

We set sail for our 3 1/2 month trip to British Columbia in about 2 weeks, so from now until then I will share some of my past IG posts about our sailing journey. Once caught up I will start sharing as we go. I hope you enjoy our story and would love to have you follow along.
